A short rant...

You know racism has been a topic of conversation lately in the news. It has made a lot of us think about how we treat other people, and the things that we say. It has even made people of a particular race think about how they talk to, and about someone in their own race. So why does USA Today think that entitling a story... "Asian Women in Tech fight to Crack Bamboo ceiling". If I was Asian, I would be pretty upset at this. It's not that USA Today was trying to come up with a racist title, they were trying to be cute, but this is the type of thing that people of other races mean when they talk about white elitism. The authors name is Jessica Guynn, which I thought at first maybe an Asian name (which wouldn't make it any better), so I looked her up and this is her image.....

How does stuff like this slip by? How do you write a story in support of a gender of a particular race, and then make fun of the race itself?

Today's News 9/18/2017

World:
1. North Korea- In the latest news out of North Korea, we are seeing more ostentatious displays and speech. Historically North Korea has felt the need to try to scare the world into giving it money, supplies, and other forms of aid. In the comments today we are seeing more threats of violence, fire, and brimstone. It is the latest of attempts by North Korea to keep its spotlight. However it is important to note that no country is fooled by these current attempts. Yes, North Korea has nuclear weapons now, yes they are making strides in the attempt at creating an intercontinental ballistic missile, capable of carrying a nuclear warhead. The fact is that no country will allow them to complete their plan. The newest sanctions passed unanimously are an attempt by the rest of the world to destabilize the government of North Korea. China and Russia who have always been supporters of North Korea, because it was profitable, do not want to see Asia destabilized. A nuclear North Korea is a threat to every country's interests in the region, and it will not be allowed to happen. Currently there is a mood flowing through the Japanese government to change the Japanese military from a defense military into both an offensive and defensive. This would be a huge concern for China, who never wants to see Japan become a world power again. We will keep a close eye on the newest developments as they unfold.

2. Germany ordering new warships because of Russia?
- A story by Newsweek suggests that Germany is ordering 4 new warships because of Russia. This is only partially true, in a very small way. The fact is that Germany is ordering these ships to meet NATO requirements. If Germany was truly concerned about Russian aggression, they would be ordering a lot more than just 4 Corvette class ships.

U.S.:
1. The Latest on the St. Louis protests:
As we all know by now an ex-St. Louis police officer was acquitted on charges following the shooting death of a suspect. It is impossible to say what happened for sure that day in 2011, but not only was he acquitted, the Justice Department has refused to seek charges related to civil rights violations. This should speak volumes as to what is believed to have happened. Unfortunately, some protests have become violent and both officers and protesters have been hurt. Remember your right to assembly and protest is important, but when protests become violent and people or businesses are being hurt or damaged, it does nothing but hurt your cause in the eyes of most Americans.

Weather: The Atlantic has been fairly busy this year, but there is good news.
Hurricane Maria is destined to hurt the tropics, but it doesn't look as though it will be a threat to the southeastern coast.
Hurricane Jose is heading up the eastern seaboard, but far enough off the coast to cause little if any ill affects. It could possibly be an issue for New York and our northern neighbors, so keep a close eye on it.

There is one other Tropical depression in the Atlantic at this time,  but the likely hood that it becomes something to worry about is slim this late in the season.

Sensationalism-
(especially in journalism) the use of exciting or shocking stories or language at the expense of accuracy, in order to provoke public interest or excitement.

This is something that you will not find on this news blog. This blog will sift through the attempts to create news where there is none, and instead discuss the important and real stories.

Sometimes, we here at "Real News Without a Spin" will examine the sensationalized stories, and point out the inaccuracies. It is important to note that all news stories have opinion in them, but some of these opinions swing so far to the left or right that an educated opinion is impossible to conjure. Instead, what you will find here is middle of the road examinations of news stories as we get them.

Thought we would clear the air in this first post.
